COACH REQUIREMENTS INSTRUCTIONS

POWERUP - VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

All Team Staff (i.e. Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager, Assistant Manager, Treasurer, Equipment Manager) as applicable must fill in a volunteer application.

1. Sign in to your “family” PowerUp account and go to the “Volunteer Now!” section (if using a computer).
Note: KEEP all “family” members together under the same MAIN family account.

  • YES, I have a family account
I don't see my name in the Volunteer Now! section,  go to point 3.

  • NO, I do not have a family account
Create a new account (if you do not already have a family one) by clicking on the ”Sign Up” button, and adding yourself. DO NOT create a new account. If you do not see your name, go to point 3.

2. Select Team Official Application.

3. Click on the “Apply Now” button next to your name (and season) to bring up the volunteer application. If your name does NOT appear, go to “Profile, Add a Player” and add yourself. Return to “Volunteer Now!” and fill in the application.

  • Note: Adding yourself as a player is simply the systems way to keep your “family” information under one account in PowerUp. This also greatly assists when processing volunteer credits in situations where the person “volunteering” is NOT the main account holder or has a different last name than the child.

4. Submit the application for approval.

POLICE RECORDS CHECK - Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Police Check

If you were not a Coach or Manager with OTFC last year, send an email to references@ottawatfc.com with the subject line "Request for Invitation - Background Check". Your email should have your first name, last name, email address and the language (English or French) you wish to receive the invitation in. Also include the age group, gender and team position you will be volunteering for. Once processed, you will receive an invitation email from "myBackCheck.com".

RESPECT IN SPORT FOR ACTIVITY LEADERS

Respect in sports (RIS) is an e-learning program for coaches, trainers, managers and any adult with a supervisory role over youth involved in soccer. It is designed as a tool to assist participants in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport.

All Competitive and U11-U18 Recreational Coaches must complete the “Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders” program. We are hoping that coaches will recognize the long-term value of the program because of the values it promotes and also what it teaches regarding important practical guidelines for youth coaches.

The online course costs $30. The curriculum is broken into six (6), 30 minute modules and includes audio/visual presentations, quizzes and printable handouts. Another beneficial feature of the program is that it does not need to be done all at once; it can be completed at your leisure. This course expires after 5 years and must be redone.

Please email references@ottawatfc.com for a code to take the course for free (OTFC only).

Once you receive the code, log into the system via the following link: RESPECT IN SPORT

HIGHER LICENCES (ONTARIO AND CANADA SOCCER)

Higher levels of coaching required further licensing beyond the above basic courses. The formal pathway for coach education in Ontario and Canada can be viewed in detail here on the Ontario Soccer's Coaching Course page.

 COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Ottawa TFC Coach Development Program (CDP) is a continuing education program for all Ottawa TFC coaches. Two to three coaching clinics are conducted each month on various topics both in class and on field.  Coaches at Ottawa TFC are required to attend a certain number of CDP sessions each season. The minimum number of sessions is determined by the level at which the coach is involved.

Starting in 2019, the CDP program has been split into two streams:

  1. Grassroots (for those coaching U12 and younger, or recreational soccer)

  2. Academy (more advanced for those coaching at the higher levels in the club).

For required credits for each level, see the last column of the coaching matrix

For questions or enrollment in the CDP please email raz@ottawatfc.com

The actual program is organized through a coach's TeamSnap account.

 SELF-ASSESSMENT AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The mentorship program pairs coaches up with staff coaches at the club, and works from a self-assessment and action plan process, through on and off-field mentorship, concluding back with a re-assessment or debrief. Details

This is required for all Academy coaches, and it is available to all coaches (pending approval/acceptance by your mentor coach).

LTPD COACHING COURSES

Please note that Ottawa TFC will only pay for the required levels of coach licensing for coaches who have committed to the club. Any additional licensing must be covered by the individual. The licensing stays with the coach and forms a part of the coach's education.

The Canadian Soccer Association’s Coach Courses will give you the confidence to succeed as you enter the ranks of certified coaches in Ontario. Each level features education on age-appropriate coaching for each level of play. Registration for all Coach Courses is done online at coachcentre.ca.
